Practice material
Fernway sample files
Fernway Group is a made-up, mid-size UK company. Everyone and everything in these files is fictional, invented purely so you can practise AI tasks without ever touching real, confidential information. Nothing here describes a real person or organisation.
Open a file to read it, or download it and drop it into whichever tool a lesson is teaching. A couple of the files are deliberately messy — that's the point.
- Weekly operations sync — rough notes (fernway-meeting-notes.md)
Messy notes from a weekly ops meeting, with half-finished actions and a couple of missing owners. Good for practising summaries and pulling out an action list.
- Sales export (CSV) (fernway-sales.csv)
A deliberately messy sales export of around 28 rows, with a typo, blank cells and totals that don't all add up. Good for a clean-up-and-analyse exercise.
- Hybrid & remote working policy (fernway-remote-working-policy.md)
A two-page fictional workplace policy. A safe stand-in for reading and summarising a real one, or asking what it does and doesn't allow.
- Internal email thread (fernway-email-thread.md)
A short internal thread with a mild disagreement, resolved politely. Good for practising a summary, or drafting a fair reply.
- Project brief (fernway-project-brief.md)
A one-page brief for a fictional internal project. Good for pulling out scope, deliverables, owners and risks.
- Org chart (fernway-org-chart.md)
A short indented chart of the invented cast — who reports to whom. Handy context for the other files.
There is also a README describing the pack and the full invented cast.
Remember: when you move on to real work, follow your own organisation's data-handling and AI-use rules and keep personal data, customer records and anything commercially sensitive out of tools that aren't approved for it.
