Free short course
The AI-Safe Desk
What you can and cannot put into an AI tool at work, in plain English. Four modules. One personal rulebook you can show your manager.
This course is free in full: every module, knowledge check and the final task, with no sign-up.
Most people using AI at work are doing it without a policy, or with a policy nobody has read. They paste in a client email to get a reply drafted, a spreadsheet to get it summarised, a CV to get it screened, and somewhere in the back of their mind is a small voice asking whether that was all right.
This course answers that voice. It is not a legal text and it does not assume your organisation has rules. It gives you a way of thinking about what goes into an AI tool, what stays out, and how to tell the difference in the two seconds before you press paste. It ends with a one-page rulebook you write for yourself, which you can show your manager, your team or your IT department and say: this is how I work.
It is written for the UK, with UK data protection law as the frame, but the thinking travels.
By the end, you'll be able to…
- Explain in one sentence what happens to text you paste into a consumer AI tool, and why it matters.
- Sort any piece of workplace information into one of four risk bands in under ten seconds.
- Redact a real document so the AI can still help without the risk travelling with it.
- Tell the difference between a consumer tool, a work-licensed tool and an internal deployment, and know which to use for what.
- Write a one-page personal AI rulebook that would survive a conversation with your data protection lead.
What's in it
- Module 1: Where the words go
What actually happens to text after you press paste.
- Module 2: The four bands
A way to sort any piece of information in ten seconds.
- Module 3: Working safely anyway
Getting the value without the risk: redaction, settings and the right tool for the job.
- Module 4: Your rulebook
One page, in your own words, that you could show anyone.
- Finishing the course
One final task that puts the whole method to work on something real.
